Boeing acquired the Stearman Aircraft Company in 1934 and continued to pump out more than 10,000 variations of the Model 75 long before Airbus was even a glimmer in the European's eyes. Easy to fly and forgiving the Stearman gained a reputation as a good teacher and a rugged primary trainer.
